Murrini MakerThe Murrini Maker is a simple fixture for stacking and holding Stringers and Noodles/Strips while firing them into Murrini rods. The fixture can also be used for making dichroic rods from strips. Measures 6"x6", 5/8" tall with seven slots. Slot widths are 6,8,10 and 12mm with a depth of 8mm). This item is made of cordierit, a low expansion refractory hard clay that withstands up to 2150 degrees F. Simply arrange component glass pieces in slot, fuse at approximately 1425 degrees F, rampling slowly to equalize the heat in the glass and fixture. The Murrini pattern blanks are then ready to "pull" if you desire to thin them, and for slicing into chips for use in your art work. Follow the usual good practices of using a shelf primer on the fixture, and cure it to remove moisture. The samples shown to the right above were make by Chris Juedemann, Hendersonville NC.
